Have you ever found yourself going to extreme lengths to impress your father? Maybe you’ve tried cooking up a new recipe, even though you hate cooking, just to see that proud smile on his face. Or perhaps you’ve picked up a newspaper way above your reading level, hoping to seem smarter, or lifted heavy items just to prove that girls can be strong too.
I remember being in the 5th standard, attempting to tackle 10th-class problems, trying to calculate money without any clue about compound interest. None of it brought real satisfaction, though. It was a never-ending cycle of striving to win his approval, yet somehow always falling short.
It took years of working on myself to realise something profound: this is my life, and it’s not about living up to someone else's expectations. Once I stopped worrying about what would impress him and started focusing on what truly made me happy, everything changed. Now, I love the life I’ve built for myself, from the work I do to the way I live.
Living for yourself is the key to finding real joy—start focusing on what you love, and the rest will follow.
